“There is a road, no simple highway, between the dawn and the dark of night. And if you go no one may follow that path is for your steps alone.”
“”The end is in the beginning and yet you go on” – Samuel Beckett, Endgame “
Coach Mark is originally from Rye, New York and grew up in Del Mar, CA. He currently lives in San Diego, CA. He earned his B.A. in Philosophy from Carlton College in Northfield, MN, where he also wrote his thesis on, none other than, Parkour. He has practiced Parkour since 2008, ancient times.
Parkour has allowed him to develop a practical medium by which he can actually navigate his physical surroundings on a day to day basis, along with a much more profound and further reaching philosophy that pervades all aspects of his life. It has helped him realize that no wall is too high, no particular obstacle is truly insurmountable, and that one can learn to overcome any challenge so long as they truly dedicate a focused mindset towards progression.
In short, Coach Mark believes that Parkour enables the practitioner to problem solve in ways they may have never conceived of before beginning their practice and in this way is a form of enlightenment that revolutionizes the manner in which one perceives the physical opportunities afforded to them in their environment. In turn, this enlightened change in perspective thereby transforms their conception as to the limitations of their own capacities on physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual levels. In this way Parkour is an extraordinarily powerful tool that, when practiced diligently, can allow one to become the ultimate version of oneself.
Coach Mark’s favorite colors are twilight blue or indigo and tie dye. His favorite food is Asian, especially ramen, and dumplings. His favorite classes and topics to teach are intermediate level Parkour classes, pure Parkour control, freerunning combos, anything movement related. Specifically, he enjoys to teach precisions, balance, aerial awareness, proprioception and overall control, as well as discipline and philosophy. Coach Mark loves nature. He feels connected to the Mountains and the Ocean.
When not teaching and doing Parkour, he likes to surf, skate, snowboard, rock climb, adventuring, cliff jumping, or do any other action sports. All things under the sun! He’s also really into poetry, rap, reading, and writing, visual arts, juggling, film, music, theater, acting, flow, performance arts, philosophy, and pondering big questions about life. He would love to be an Actor/Performer/Flow Artiste. Coach Mark’s favorite animal is the dolphin, though his spirit animal is the flying mermonkey..
